Chris Martin report on ‘We
Remember 1907’
Monongah’s No. 1 photographer, Chris Martin,
reports on the “We Remember 1907” observance Dec. 6, the date of the horrific
twin mine explosions in Monongah that killed 362 (officially) but probably more
like 500+ (according to the late Father Everett Briggs and the 1907
gravediggers)”
PACE Monongah, Volunteers and Members of
Pace, Ewing Johnson, would like to Thank Everyone for the contributions and
participation in the "We Remember 1907" Monongah Mine Disaster.
The members of PACE spent many weeks planning, phone call, footwork, and hosting the Event. Also Denise Roncone in planning a beautiful 2nd half of the day. Mayor Vandetta and Council, we thank you for all you did. We couldn't do it without the help , support, donations, and friendships.
Linda Shelosky, Greg Vandetta, and Gage for doing the final cleanup. Donna and Ina for the many miles you traveled.
Thanks to PACE volunteers. A event does not just happen, many volunteers and many hours were donated. Amazing Volunteers in PACE!
The rain never stopped. The heat has been off all week in the town hall.
Monongah gathered together in the Town Hall to pay tribute to the victims of the mine disaster. We shared memories, smiles, hugs, and our stories. Our youth were active in conversations and I saw a lot of smiles. Our elderly shared their stories of growing up years in this special little town. It’s funny how we didn't notice the cold, or the wet, we just felt the warmth from the hearts of our neighbors and friends. So proud to live in Monongah.
